Workshop Title: Art in the Environment
Format: Outdoors
Workshop Description: This workshop is designed as an experiential learning opportunity for both non-art and art majors alike. Participants use nature as a classroom to examine and explore basic design principles and art fundamentals. Students also are introduced to historical and contemporary environmental artists. This is a site specific workshop that can take place in diverse environments, from city parks to wilderness areas to campus open spaces. We will explore compositional concepts through the use of digital photography. Participants derive a heightened sense for their environment and their connection to it.
Note: This is a course I have developed and successfully implemented. Art in the Environment is an exciting, engaging workshop that not only helps non-art and art enthusiasts with their creative confidence, but it has also proven to be an effective tool for enhancing our creative perspective.
Workshop Title: Three-dimensional Paper Pulp
Format: Studio or Classroom
Workshop Description: This project is about the romance of making. Workshop participants journey through a step-by-step process to create sculptural forms using recycled newspaper and chicken wire. Participants will explore a variety of construction techniques and surface treatments. From the intricate modeling of the wire armature to mixing and applying a recycled newsprint pulp to numerous surface layers, this process allows the opportunity to develop large, lightweight and durable forms, expanding sculptural possibilities. Simple materials. Simple process. Incredible results. The challenge is understanding your materials, and this workshop is designed to begin that dialogue.
